Psychological Background:
Generally soft spoken and easy to
get along with, although she shows an acerbic wit when the occasion
calls for it. Cassandra is a people pleaser, often ignoring her own
needs to make others happy. Somewhat of a workaholic, she tends to tune
others out when she's studying or researching something, often forgetting
to eat until she gets dizzy. She loves children although there is a
core of sadness there as she has been diagnosed with infertility. She
hates to see anyone suffer, especially children and she's a firm believer
in positive thinking having the ability to affect one's prognosis.
Personality Quirks: Although she is
seen as quite reserved by many of her colleagues, she has a quirky sense
of humor and has been known to play a practical joke or two on the deserving.
Her one vice is chocolate; it can be an almost religious experience
for her depending on the quality of it. She is allergic to shellfish,
although she loved it as a child before she developed the allergy. She
loves to cook and often makes too much for herself, bringing the extras
for her coworkers.
History:
An only child, Cassandra's parents divorced when she was nine years
old. Her mother, eager to escape an abusive situation, had to leave
her behind in order to find a new place to settle. Never dreaming that
Cassandra would bear the brunt of her husband's rage, her mother left
her in his care for several months before she was able to come back
for her. Cassandra never talked about what she went through in those
months, preferring not to add to her mother's problems. They moved away
and started a new life together. Cassandra always knew she wanted to
be a Doctor, studying hard to the exclusion of everything else. Her
social life was practically nonexistent. After a while the boys just
stopped asking, she was always either studying or holding down an after
school job to help bring in money.
She won a moderate scholarship
to UCSD and supplemented that with doing medical transcription in her
spare time. When she was 25, she was in a serious car crash and was
told she would never be able to have children of her own. She decided
to specialize in Pediatrics as a way to connect with children on a daily
basis. She grew distant from her mother after she left for college,
barely speaking to her a couple of times a year even though they live
in the same city. She tends to spend most of her time at the hospital,
and can always be counted on to take an extra shift.
