Psychological Background:
Optimistic, idealistic, and usually good natured. Takes a lot to piss him off, but when he does blow, although it's short, it's a big explosion. A playboy at heart, he likes to play the field with no intent on settling down and living the "2.5 kids and white picket fence" life. He's dedicated to his job, and actually quite good at it, usually with a smile on his face and a joke in his head (usually not a very clean one). Close to his mom and his two brothers. He's one of those types where it's almost impossible to be mad at, or even stay mad at him. Is extremely good with children, especially sick ones. Is a med student favorite due to his knowledge and out going personality.

Personality Quirks:
Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. He's addicted to coffee, and cigarettes, hates seafood. When on break or thinking, dribbles a soccer ball on his feet and knees. Cannot cook and depends on take out, vending machines and the kindness of friends to eat, and still doesn't manage to do it properly. He's been known to come into to ED for a rapid detox of hydration and oxygen. Wears green scrubs, never a suit and tie.

History:
The son of a single mother, he was raised with his three brothers on a waitress' salary with help from the state in a bad part of Los Angeles. He never knew his father, the man left when the youngest brother was two, never to be seen again. He was five at the time and has few clear memories of the time, and no overwhelming urge to find the man and reacquaint himself with the source of half of his genes. His father tried once to see him and his brothers, when he was seventeen. His brothers met with him, but he refused, and still to this day refuses. He did well in school, excelling in math and science, and went to college on a soccer scholarship. He's still a good soccer player, and could have gone pro, but his mother wanted a doctor, so he went to medical school. Unlike other kids in the neighborhood, the O'Connor boys never had trouble with the cops. Their mother simply wouldn't allow it, and they were more afraid of her than anything the cops would do to them!

He went to med school with some financial aid, but mostly worked his way through it, pulling two jobs plus his studies plus his rotations. He even fell in love with medicine along the way, it becoming more about him wanting to do it than making his mother proud. He settled into pediatrics because he found he had a natural rapport with children. His mother refused to move out of the old neighborhood back in LA, even with her over achieving sons' money (one is an engineer, the other an investment banker), so his brothers and he help support her in LA, though she still works. He chose hospital over private practice, and is now the pediatric attending of Ocean Cove. He's easily found in the ED most of the time, where most of his friends are, and the best coffee in the hospital.
