Personality Quirks: Enjoys a good single malt scotch, slow jazz and a good book to read on most evenings after he puts Alyssa to bed. He could eat chinese food for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Dislikes loud music, smokers, drugs of any kind.

History: Jack was born and raised in LA. The son of a prominent surgeon, there was never a question that he would follow in his father's footsteps. He met his wife Mary in his third year of college where she was studying for a career as a psychologist. They married after dating for a couple of years and were blissfully happy. He loved her deeply, the one bone of contention in their marriage being her tendency to psychoanalyze him which he *hated* with a passion. After a few years of marriage, it became apparent that they were having trouble conceiving and Mary tried every treatment in the book before finally giving birth to Alyssa.

Jack stood by her side through all the emotional ups and downs that accompanied that quest for a child that had become so important to her. Although Jack wanted a child as well, he would have been happy just to have Mary at his side, but he could see how important it was to her.

Tragedy struck shortly after Alyssa's birth later when Mary was diagnosed with bone cancer. She struggled with it but finally succombed a year later. Jack was utterly devastated by Mary's death, even though he had plenty of time to come to terms with it. He took a leave of absence and started drinking entirely too much. He sent Alyssa to live with his parents for a while, it just hurt too much to look at her and see Mary's smile and try to keep a happy face on for her. In the end, it was work that pulled him out of it.

He went back and worked day and night. Working so much cut down on his drinking, although he still didn't have much time for his daughter. Three years later, Jack has tried to get his life more into balance, cutting back on his shifts and moving his daughter back in with him. He got a live in nanny to be there for her when he got called out on an emergency and has slowly put his life back together, even regaining his sense of humor and some of his zest for life again.
