Maybe it was because he'd agreed with his daughter's wishes ahead of time or because he really wanted his grandchild or whatever the reason, he took wonderfully at being a father. He raised him by himself for the first 4 years of their lives, till he meet another woman and got married, his wife died years ago and James was a young grandfather of 50. Rachel was a wonderful woman and because of a childhood illness, she could never have kids of her own, so Kevin became her child to her. Rachel and James were married by the time Kevin was 5 and they lived happily. Kevin grew up, being a normal kid and having lots of friends. He did the normal kid stuff, sex, drugs and rock and roll, but only ended up in jail once. He got probation for that one and learned his lesson and never got in trouble again. He went back to class and applied himself and managed to an A+ student. He graduated high school and followed in his mother's foot steps. He wanted to become a doctor. So like all kids, he went off to college. He did well there, meet new friends, had a few girlfriends and was in his 3rd year of college when tragidy struck. Rachael and James were in a car accident that killed Rachel, but left James with a brain injury. He needed constant help, so Kevin left college and moved back home to tend to his father. While there, he also needed a job so he got involved with becoming a paramedic, which he planned on doing till he could go back to studying for being a doctor. Life never worked out the way we planned it and years later James died, leaving Kevin the ability to go back to school if he wanted. But by the time that came up, Kevin found he couldn't leave, he loved being a paramedic so he stayed on. He recently finally got promoted to Lieutenant, but in order for that to happen he had to go to another station. He was tranfered a few miles away to start his new job.
